Formerly owned by retailer Una Taaffe, one of Galway’s great characters. As kids we’d dare each other to set foot inside the dimly-lit knit ware shop, im not sure why, but it probably had something to do with the acrid smell of dozens of stray cats & dogs which made it their home.

The tourists loved it though, my childhood memories recall loud American voices, chunky Aran sweaters & the eccentric silhouette of Una Taaffe as she shuffled around the store. Now that’s a blast from the past & another glimpse into our home city Galway. ⁣
