Caitríona + Biskit shootin the breeze outside the dilapidated former Taaffe’s premises on William street.
Formerly owned by retailer Una Taaffe, one of Galway’s great characters. As kids we’d dare each other to set foot inside the dimly-lit knit ware shop, im not sure why, but it probably had something to do with the acrid smell of dozens of stray cats & dogs which made it their home.
The tourists loved it though, my childhood memories recall loud American voices, chunky Aran sweaters & the eccentric silhouette of Una Taaffe as she shuffled around the store. Now that’s a blast from the past & another glimpse into our home city Galway.
